Also called Black Cherry, this hardwood is known for its beautiful, rich color and good working properties. Cherry trees contain heartwood with a superior, consistent red color, better overall appearance, little gum and less sapwood. Cherry is chosen for its fine uniform texture. It has straight grain and is reddish-brown in color with the occasional appearance of gum spots. Cherry is moderately dense, stable, has good working properties and finishes to a glass-like smoothness. The heartwood is particularly durable and has good resistance to decay. Cherry is a premium choice for fine furniture, cabinetry, panelling, tool handles, stair treads and high-end flooring.
